The Cane Barrel Tub Chair wraps the sitter in a continuous curve. A bent walnut rail runs round the back and forward to form the arms, and the space beneath it is filled with natural woven cane, inside and out. The seat is a thick tan leather cushion on a timber seat frame, and the chair stands on four slim tapered legs.
It sits between a dining chair and a lounge chair: low enough at the arms to slide under most dining tables, deep enough for a long dinner or a drink at the bar.
Why it suits a lower-impact scheme. Timber, cane and leather are all repairable materials. The cane panels are set into grooves and can be re-woven or replaced; the leather cushion is a separate part that can be re-covered; the frame can be refinished rather than replaced.
Construction. Solid walnut legs, laminated bent timber back rail, cane on removable framed panels, seat cushion on a plywood deck.
Where it works. Hotel restaurants and bars, lounge areas, waiting zones and dining rooms that want a softer, rounder chair than a standard side chair.
Options. Timber species and stain, cane colour, leather or fabric seat.
