The Shell-Back Cord Armchair pairs a wide, curved back cut from solid timber with a seat woven from natural paper cord. The back is shaped like a shallow shell that cups the shoulders; two slim arms project forward from it on turned supports, ending well short of the table edge so the chair still tucks in.
The seat is woven in the envelope pattern over a timber seat frame, and the legs are linked by stretchers on all sides, a light but stiff structure.
Why it fits here. There is no foam or glued fabric in this chair. The timber can be sanded and re-oiled, and if the cord seat is damaged it can be re-woven on the same frame by any chair weaver. Paper cord is a plant-based material and ages to a warmer colour.
Construction. Solid hardwood frame with mortise-and-tenon joints, back shell laminated from solid timber, seat woven by hand.
Where it works. Head-of-table seats, restaurants with natural-material schemes, private dining rooms and cafés where the chairs are part of the look.
Options. Stain and finish, cord colour, a tie-on seat pad, and an armless version for tighter tables.
