Here the back of the booth is a flat walnut panel with a brass rail across it. Three back cushions hang from the rail on mustard leather straps. Any cushion lifts off in seconds for cleaning, and the whole colour scheme of a room can be changed by ordering new cushions rather than new seating.
The design is honest about how restaurant seating is used: the back cushion takes most of the soiling from hair and clothing, while the panel behind it lasts almost indefinitely. Making the soft part the removable part keeps the hard-wearing parts in service.
The seat is a separate upholstered cushion on a timber plinth. Cushion covers can be zip-off for laundering or replacement. The design suits brunch rooms, bistros and hotel lobbies where the look changes with the seasons.
