The tapered plinth is the detail to notice. Instead of a square box running to the floor, the walnut base narrows towards the bottom, which gives guests more heel room when they slide in and makes a long run of booths look lighter.
Above the plinth, the booth has a black leather seat and a padded backrest in a green and cream tropical leaf print, framed by solid walnut ends and a timber back board. It is shown as a long wall run and as facing pairs across walnut tables that stand on crossed timber legs with a dark inset top.
Built to be maintained. The backrest is a separate upholstered part fixed to the timber back, and the seat cushion is independent of the plinth, so either can be re-covered. Solid timber ends can be sanded and re-oiled rather than replaced when they are scuffed.
Where it works. Sichuan and Chinese restaurants, tea houses, casual dining and noodle bars.
