The pattern sits on the back, where guests see it and rarely wear it; the leather sits on the seat, where the work happens.
These booths have a solid timber frame with open slatted sides and a deep black leather seat. The back is a fabric panel framed in timber, shown here in a red-brown abstract, a brown checkerboard and an olive fan print. Tables are walnut on a fluted round pedestal with a black disc foot, which keeps knees clear on both sides of the table.
Choosing the back fabric. A busy pattern hides marks and makes a long run of booths feel less repetitive. Because the back panel is upholstered separately from the frame, you can change it for a new season or a new brand colour without re-making the booth. Wool, wool-blend and recycled-content contract fabrics are available, as is COM.
Seat. Black leather or a contract-grade polyurethane alternative, chosen to suit how hard the room is used.
Where it works. Chinese and Sichuan restaurants, tea houses, cafés and casual dining.
Options. Booth length, back fabric, seat material, stain, table size and top material.
