Heavy timber, plain black leather and nothing else: this chair is about how little it needs. The frame is solid ash stained dark brown, with thick square legs and front posts, and the grain shows clearly through the finish. The rear posts are carved and pegged where they meet the back.
The seat is a single sling of black leather-look material, stitched and strapped across the seat rails; the back is a curved panel of the same black leather, held between the rear posts. There is no foam to flatten and no staples to work loose, so the seat stays taut and the leather can be replaced as one piece.
Built to be maintained. The leather sling and back panel are separate from the frame, which can be sanded and re-oiled. Heavy block legs resist the wobble that develops in lighter chairs.
Where it works. Dark-timber restaurants, hotel dining rooms, steakhouses and wine bars.
Options. Leather colour and grade, timber stain, seat height. Dimensions are confirmed on the shop drawing.
